Lower Silesian Center of Animal- Assisted Therapy (Dolnośląski Ośrodek Animaloterapii DOŚA)

Together with canine therapists, alpacotherapists and hippotherapists we create programs of therapeutic classes with animals for people with disabilities.

Lower Silesian Center of Animal- Assisted Therapy (Dolnośląski Ośrodek Animaloterapii DOŚA) - is a project in which we cooperate with canine therapists, alpacotherapists and hippotherapists. Together we create therapeutic programs for people with disabilities. Participants are offered therapies with gentle and prepared to work with people animals in the form of self-reliance group training or individual classes. Participation is preceded by diagnosing the participant's resources and identifying important for that person therapeutic goals.

Animals act as a motivator during the classes, they give new meaning and significance. Working with animals builds a sense of success and strengthens self-confidence. The animal does not judge, is a source of positive feelings, strives for contact with a man despite his disability, relieves stress and tension. These classes are a new and interesting form of acquiring practical skills.

The first DOŚA project was implemented in 2022 thanks to funding from PFRON received from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The participants were people with intellectual disabilities and autism as well as deaf people. Classes were held in the Swiniary estate in Wroclaw - here we got in touch with specialists working with their own animals and we found a great place to our dogs. At the moment we are trying to raise funds so that DOŚA could be implemented every year, as the project is very popular.

Adventure with horses

Get out into nature, meet brave and sensitive animals and passionate people!

Adventure with horses is our hobby! We cooperate with many organisations including the Czarodziejska Góra Foundation in Mniszków (near the Rudawski Landscape Park) and Zadora Stable in Zajączków (near Poznań). Participants in the activities are adults with disabilities and people from their environment. This adventure is a trip - out of the city into nature, a change of environment for a few days, meeting brave and sensitive animals and of course passionate people. It gives a chance to establish unusual relationship with horses and this helps to overcome internal barriers, allows to express feelings, brings joy and enriches the inner world of experiences. Proximity and contact with such wise, strong and beautiful animals help build and strengthen self-esteem. The opportunity of being in a herd of horses and feeling trust from them is a source of pride. Contact with horses also plays a therapeutic role. People who struggle with personal problems change in contact with horses, they relax and gain inner strength. Working with a horse stimulates the senses. It is an unforgettable experience for people with impaired sense of sight or hearing. The touch of a soft and warm coat calms, the smell of a horse stimulates and soothes at the same time, the neighing and stamping sharpens hearing and awakens imagination, horseback riding increases awareness of own body.

As part of this adventure we also participate in workshops on working with horses from the ground and walking with them as well as development workshops with horses. We observe how these amazing animals behave in a herd and how they affect us. These are experiences and emotions that stay with the participants for a long time.

Our first adventure with horses was realized in 2021 thanks to PFRON funding received from the Wroclaw’s social welfare centre.

Activities for children and young people

In our offer you can find different, educational and therapeutic activities with animals which help children and young people develop their potential.

A child's smile is the most precious treasure in the world. Since the beginning of the Foundation, we have been conducting classes with animals for children and young people – and in fact the child’s smile is for us the greatest motivator! Animals help them, at least for a moment, forget about everyday difficulties, be happy and find empathy and sensitivity in themselves. Participants rejoice when a dog approaches, whisper when it falls asleep in their presence, get involved in preparing snacks for the alpacas, show care by grooming a horse, say kind words to the animals and thank them for meeting. So little - and yet so much. Animals are like a mirror - they give an opportunity young people to see themselves, and like a bridge - they help us therapists establish a good relations with the group.

For our youngest and adolescent participants we offer:

  • Animal-Assisted Activities - primarily relaxing and entertaining; animals motivate to engage in a variety of activities (e.g., movement or integration games).

  • Animal-Assisted Education – supports children in learning (e.g., by reading to a dog) and stimulates an interest in the animal world (e.g., classes on dog communication or dog care).

  • Animal-Assisted Therapy - conducted by specialists who pursue specific therapeutic goals.
We work, for example, on increasing self-confidence, developing cooperation skills or shaping an assertive attitude in relations with peers.

We organize classes for children and adolescents, including the Holiday Adventure Project financed by the municipality of Wroclaw.
